Ohura Falls/Whakahoro Adventure

You start this river adventure at Cherry Grove in Taumarunui.

It takes you down the Whanganui River, through farmland and onto the boundaries of the scenic Whanganui National Park.  Pass through long bush clad gorges reflecting amazing images onto the water.  See the abundant bird life, watch for both Brown and Rainbow Trout.

A compulsory stop at the “Taniwha” to place a branch will insure you have a safe return journey.

Next a stop to view the Ohura Falls and hear about early settlement.  Along the way see remnants from the day when the river was used by steamboats.  Our last stop is Whakahoro.

Here you can visit an old school classroom and read about the history of the early settlers in the area.  A café can provide refreshments if required before we start our return journey.
